About Grass Media Web Design
Grass Media is now eight years old and grew out of a small business offering promotional services to un-signed musicians and that included not only creating press releases and marketing materials but increasingly web-based services such as site design, social media management and email marketing.
Sadly we've now left the music business behind us but are now concentrating on commercial web-design, hosting and management. Our credentials are impecable. Nigel (who is Grass Media) was involved in the development of the internet in the early eighties while working with the US Department of Defence, the MoD here in the UK and the universities of Cambridge, Newcastle and Edinburgh. At that time, the internet was a tool for the military providing a robust and resiliant command structure in the event of hostile attack. Not long after Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web (www) in 1989 (and the internet became useful), Nigel had already begun experimenting with rudimentary web-sites which were text-only affairs and frankly not much use to anybody except the other couple of hundred people around the globe that had access to the web (as we now know it) but our foundations lay back in those halcyon days.
In 1995 Nigel became European marketing manager for a multi-national technology company, combining his knowledge of the 'technical' with his natural marketing abilities. It was here that Nigel learned to combine the the needs of business with innovative ways to use the emerging web technologies.
Nigel still maintains he is more of a marketeer than a technologist and that is why Grass Media's approach to making web-sites differs from many others who may only pay a passing glance to the sales and marketing needs of a customer, prefering to focus on the technology aspects first.
Having gained an almost unique insight iinto business and technology, in 2001 Nigel joined a small London-based consultancy firm and was fortunate to work with many global businesses including Barclays, Ford, Unilever, General Motors, Lloyds TSB and several public sector organisations, including the European Patents Organisation.
In 2008 Nigel went full-time with Grass Media and today focusses his unique business and technology background on small, local businesses. Nigel expained to the Herne Bay Times recently "I made a concious decision to work with local businesses becuase it's cheaper to do business locally, my overheads are low and that means I can offer professional services to customers at a fraction of the cost they might be expected to pay nearer to London. Not only that but I really enjoy getting to know my clients; to understand their business and to be able to drop in on them regularly.
Another reason why I can generally price jobs lower than anyone else is because unusually I charge according to what the job will cost to do and not what I think the customer can afford - it's a big difference!
